Skating isnt just about relaxing fun or getting fit and toned. For those whose interests lie a little more on the extreme side, there is plenty of opportunity to let off some steam on Rollerblades.
The extreme side of blading seems to be split very much down the middle. On the one hand there is the aggressive skating that has characterised a prominent section of the male skateboarding scene for many years, while on the other there is the predominantly female, feminism baiting thrill of the roller derby.
Aggressive skating focuses mainly on tricks and stunts, using either street obstacles to grind or slide on or ramps to perform flips and spins. The results can be spectacular, or painful, depending on the ability of the performer. It is classed as an extreme sport, although its popularity is no longer at the peaks that it was in the 90s.
While aggressive skating utilises Rollerblades to find the thrills, roller derbies are based around the more traditional roller skates. While aggressive skating has dipped slightly recently, roller derbies seem to be growing in popularity all the time. Stretching back as far as the 1920s, this high contact sport has moved from small town America throughout the world and has even blossomed here in the UK. While it doesnt share the name of its more male heavy counterpart, roller derby may be the more aggressive of the two sports, since it is heavily based on contact with other players. Players must lap opponents on a track while blocking the opposition. The empowerment aspects of the sport are extremely important, making it hugely popular with teenagers and not just adults.
So next time you are looking to put some spice back in your life, maybe its time to dust off those old roller skates and do something extreme.

What color sofa are people buying these days? We asked a designer from Home Reserve a leading online furniture site about the color trends. “We’re definitely seeing some new colors emerge,” says Scott Anspach, the stylist for the company. Orange has been huge for quite some time but now we’re seeing the popularity of light blue and dark brown fabrics rise to fever levels as well.”
“Not only are all three colors being widely used separately, but people are also using them in combination,” explains Anspach. “They may use a light blue fabric for the sofa itself and then accent with dark brown and orange pillows. It is a surprising blend, but does create a wonderful contemporary color scheme.”
He says that this color direction is no secret. “You can see them in all the shelter magazines and mail order catalogs. These blue, brown and orange colors are everywhere.” When we asked about the old standbys of beige and neutrals he explained: “Those earth tones are always a safe choice, but sales in those colors haven’t spiked, just kept a steady pace.”
What’s next? According to the research at Home Reserve, don’t be surprised to see pink emerge and for light pastels to return. You can visit their web site at http://www.homereserve.com

Did you think that sunglasses were always used to protect our eyes from the sun? Well if you did, you are most certainly mistaken. The first reason why they darkened glasses was because of smoke tinting, which was held in China before 1430. It was so far back in time, that of coarse their glasses were not of any prescription, and they were not used to protect your eyes from the sun. The Chinese judges had often worn sunglasses with quartz to hide the expression in their eyes while during a court case.
It was only until the actual year of 1430 that prescription sunglasses came about in China from the fair country of Italy. The sunglasses from Italy were also obviously darkened, but they were darkened for court cases as well.
The experimentation of tinting lenses came from a man named James Ayscough in the 18th Century. He as well, did not seek sunglasses as protecting your eyes from the rays of the sun, but for the correction of vision impairments.
When the 20th Century hit is when we start to see the wide range of the sunglasses popularity. This was the time period where they started to realize that sunglasses would be a great help to protect your eyes from the sun. They were first sold in the Atlantic City, New Jersey. When the year of 1930 struck was when everyone had to own a pair.
In 1960 sunglasses started to develop their actual style for fashion. There you have some new knowledge of sunglasses! What would we do without them?
