VPS Web Hosting Overview

Shared web hosting and dedicated web hosting are two of the most common web hosting plans that you will see in a hosting provider website. While each package has its fair share of benefits, dedicated servers are definitely the way to go if you want more customization. Some customers want to have more control with their operating system and server resources.

The only problem is that dedicated servers are too costly and the gap between shared web hosting and dedicated web hosting is very vast. VPS web hosting properly bridges this gap by fusing shared and dedicated features together.

About VPS Web Hosting

VPS stands for virtual private servers so these servers basically offer the environment of a dedicated server within a shared server. So the price is significantly cut down compared to dedicated hosting due it its shared nature but you won’t get the speed benefits.

The key feature here is stability where the shared server utilizes a special virtualization software that effectively allocates a certain amount of shared server resources to a particular account. Think of it as a less powerful dedicated hosting solution and you won’t get those collisions that you would get from shared web hosting because virtualization makes sure that the site in the server is isolated.

You also won’t get those instances where another website is draining too many resources to the point that other sites within the shared host suffer. With a VPS package, you get a clear idea on your specifications so you can figure out how to properly utilize them.

VPS is still a shared server

Keep in mind that using VPS is still a shared server environment. However, you get a dedicated amount of bandwidth and resources which if your usage remains inside your allotted amount, your sites will do just fine.

Common Characteristics among VPS Web Hosting Plans

Good VPS hosting plans come with both unlimited bandwidth and disk space which is nice for hosting large sites that target a certain audience. Bigger sites that target a large general audience are not very ideal as the site performance can slow down if there is too much traffic.

Unlike shared hosting, a VPS plan provides a remote access to your virtual environment so you can better fine-tune the different options so it works better with your site. This offers more flexibility than a standard web hosting control panel. You can do advanced administrator options such as server rebooting or modifying code if you have experience.

Specific Features to Look For

1. Support

Like any type of web hosting plan, support options should take the first priority because your entire experience can be ruined if your site runs into a downtime. Tinkering with the various options in a VPS can make or break a system so it always helps to have some quick access to some phone support or live chat.

All web hosting companies will promise good support so your key reference here is other customers because only they can share their true experiences.

The amount and quality of 24/7 technical support cannot be overstated. If you’re like me, and aren’t terribly technical with server matters, then support is critical.

VPS hosting options can vary so basically all you need to do is properly address your site’s needs. Figure out what software you plan on using and make sure it is compatible with the specifications laid out on the VPS hosting package. You should also analyze the hardware that you are getting and see if it stacks well with the price.

2. Bandwidth

Some VPS hosting services offer a variety of bandwidth options. The more you get, the more you pay. It can be a bit of trial and error determining the right amount of bandwidth. Be sure the VPS service you use will permit you to decrease or increase your bandwidth so you’re not locked into the wrong bandwidth level.

3. User Interface / Backend

If you’re switching from shared hosting, then you’ll likely be familiar with a particular user interface such as CPanel. Therefore, to minimize time learning a new interface, look for VPS with the same user interface option.

4. Email accounts

It goes without saying that you want unlimited email accounts with your VPS.

5. Free website transfer

This feature can save you a ton of time. When I switched to a new hosting service for VPS, they offered to transfer my sites. They had it done within 48 hours and saved me a ton of time and hassle.

Looking at multiple hosting companies that offer VPS can help you decide better. Also, be on the lookout for possible fees when setting up your site for the first time.

Posters – Is it For You?

Poster printing has been a staple in the world of marketing for a very long time, but that does not mean everyone knows exactly what posters can do, or what the best situations are to use them in. Hopefully I can answer some of the more basic questions here.

What exactly do posters do?

Custom posters send a basic message to a broad audience of people. The best posters are the ones that have very colorful or have interesting design, increasing the odds of people looking at them. They are placed in specific locations where the largest audience possible will be able to see them. Because you do not actually hand a poster to people, the location will be one of the most important aspects when it comes to who will see it. If you have a bad location you might find that no one is actually looking at the poster you spent so much time and money implementing.

It should also be noted that posters are capable of working for long after you first put them up. You might have your poster up for an entire year and get solid marketing exposure during that entire time if your poster holds up. No other marketing can make the same claim as that.

How much does poster marketing cost you?

The design costs will vary depending on the amount of work you put into it, obviously, and some posters will require a lot of design work in order to be as powerful as they can be. The poster printing will not run quite as high when compared to many other types of advertising because you will need less posters than you would brochures or postcards. You are not handing them out to people, after all, so you do not need to get as many done.

How hard is it to start up a poster marketing campaign?

There are two major time investments when first starting out with your posters. The first is the time it takes to design them, and the second is doing the research into the best places to put them. Both are of equal importance and you will need to put a lot of time into each if you want to have the most success from your poster marketing push.

What are the disadvantages of posters?

You have less control over who sees your posters than you do with other types of marketing. Yes, you can put your poster up in a great spot, but you have no way of knowing that anyone will actually look over at them. If you have done great design work and you have great locations, the odds are good that you would not have to worry, but you still cannot know.

The message you give with posters is also typically shorter so you can get it to a person as quickly as possible. If you need more time to explain something, posters might not be the best way to go.

Tips For Powerful Poster Design

When people approach a poster for information, they do not want to spend all afternoon reading it, or trying out how to read it. You need to design a poster that is easy to read and understand, and easy to navigate. People should intuitively know which way to go next to read about the next topic.

You will want to use custom poster printing in most cases for an effective sales presentation or a successful trade show appearance. If you let the poster printing shop design your poster for you, you may end up with something that looks an awful lot like your competitor’s poster.

Here are some general tips to keep in mind when creating your poster:

o Keep the title brief and explanatory.

o Provide an intro or abstract so people know what they are looking at and what information to pay attention to or look for.

o Plan a story if appropriate – stories are the best way for people to recall facts. Make sure your story has context – what, why and how; results and analysis; and the importance of the results. What happened or what’s going to happen in the future because of this story?

o Use concise language and bullet points.

o Use easy-to-understand graphs and tables with clear labels.

o Include an image of a finished product or end result that will impress viewers.

o Make the flow intuitive – people should be able to tell which way to look next very easily.

Basic steps to creating a powerful poster

Before you even pick up your poster board, you need to decide what one concept you want the poster to express to the audience. Make sure all your text and graphics point to that one concept. If you have multiple concepts, you should probably have multiple posters so you do not confuse people.

Next you should determine the size of poster you need. This will depend on how much info you need to present, based on the first step. Then you should sketch out how you imagine the text and graphics will lay out on the poster. Make sure the photos or tables are drawn in scale with one another and with the text. Then you need to gather your supplies – send photo files to the printer, send text files to the printer – and whatever else the printer may need. If you are assembling the poster yourself, make sure you have glue sticks, scissors and a ruler to make sure things are spaced evenly.

Give yourself a week minimum to design and create a poster. Give yourself a few more days after that to practice your poster presentation. Make sure your presentation covers all the key points in the poster and expands on what the poster states – do not just read the poster to your audience.

A note about color

Make sure the colors you use complement each other. Gray and other muted colors are best for the background and brighter colors work well for borders or emphasis. Just do not go overboard with the colors – stick to two or three colors (not counting your photos, of course).

One last thing

And the last thing you should do before sending anything to the printer, and when you get your poster back from the printer? Proofread, proofread, proofread. Nothing looks more unprofessional than a typo or spelling error in your poster.

Pictures Look Pretty, But Words Sell – Are You Using The Right Words In Your Promotional Material?

Are you spending buckets of money on glossy brochures and trendy websites hoping to raise awareness of your product or service? Is it working? Be honest now…

Many businesses are wasting money because whilst they concentrate on a sleek looking brochure and swanky website, they do not put anywhere near as much thought and effort into the very things that sell: the words.

You could significantly improve the effectiveness of your promotional campaign using the power of well-crafted writing.

If you’ve been to a marketing seminar you’ll have heard an acronym or twenty. If you only remember one, remember AIDA. It’s got nothing to do with opera, but everything to do with effectively promoting your business:

Attention: Grab attention with a striking strap line. Get people thinking, and wanting to read more.

Interest: Raise interest by outlining benefits, not features. Make sure your statements don’t have the ‘so what?’ factor.

Desire: Make them want it! Use compelling words to convince customers that your product will solve their problem or change their lives.

Action: Lead with positive action: not ‘if you’d like any further information call us.’ Tell them to contact you now because it will benefit them. ‘Call us now and change your life forever.’

Many business owners opt to write their own website or brochure copy, then find they are too busy to dedicate enough time to doing it properly. Additionally, anyone not used to writing marketing copy can often slip up with mistakes like:

Quantity over quality – hiding the sales message in reams of waffle. Features over benefits – concentrating on what it is instead of how it can help. Lack of keywords – website content must be keyword-rich so a site stands a better chance of achieving search engine visibility. Mal-targeting: writing in a style that appeals to you instead of your audience. Wrong media: website content and brochure text are different; using brochure copy on websites doesn’t work. Poor grammar and spelling: it’s got to be perfect – enough said.

If your promotional campaign isn’t working, then maybe it’s time to take a look at the words you are using … and perhaps start using a professional copywriter to help improve your promotional material.

Poster Printing Tips That Matter

Poster printing is a fun way to advertise your products and services. You can express your creativity in a lot of ways as well as stretch the bounds and limitation of what the printing industry offer. Poster printing allows you to have a wide range of audience and to top it all of, they are very cost effective and affordable.

To help you get started in poster printing, here are some thins that a beginner should take note:

Always start with a plan

In everything, may it be in life or printing, a plan is needed in order for you to have a smooth path to success. A plan is a guide that you can follow towards a goal. Without a plan, you are just relying on luck and chance in order to be successful. Just as bad is having a plan that is not suited for your desired results. Such a plan will only lead you to your own destruction and failure in imminent.

Do not do it yourself

Advancements in printing technology have made printing materials accessible to people. You can print your materials yourself using your very own printer. However, if you want your prints to have professional qualities, you must go to a professional printer and let them print your materials for you. they know the best materials to use for a particular project and may offer suggestions on things that you can do with your prints.

Determine what size you want your poster in

The size of the poster should dictate how you would treat the lay out. The bigger the canvass means the more freedom an artist can have in his or her own project. In contrast, having limited space will need a more compact design. Also the colors and details that can be used when you are printing in large format can not be used when you print in small sizes.

For example, the black that is used in large format prints and the black used in small prints are different. For small prints, regular black is used meaning 100% Black and 0% Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. On the other hand, in large format posters, this type of black may appear grayish and not black enough for your liking. That is why rich black is developed. Rich black is made by using 100% Black and at least 30% Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. This type of black gives large format posters that black that it needs. However, rich black cannot be used in small posters because the risk of having the inks bleed through the paper is very high.

Your idea should be simple

The secret to a successful marketing campaign is having a simple big idea that everyone can relate to. Remember that in order to grab the attention of your target audience, you need to have a one on one connection with your customers. You need to be personal and you need your customers to feel that they are cared for. Being complicated and the use of technical jargon in your prints are a signal to your audience that you do not give an effort to make things simple for them.
